"A Hero's Legacy" TV Special Story

Note: This is based on the Funimation dub of the television special "A Hero's Legacy."

The special starts with the final moments of Baby when Super Saiyan 4 Goku fires a 10x Kamehameha at Baby's ship, and it flies into the sun. Then 100 years pass, and all the Z-fighters besides Goku and Pan have died natural deaths. Pan and Goku Jr. are paying their respects at Goku's grave (this is not his real grave, for he didn't die because he became one with Shenron at the end of Dragonball GT). Later, she tries to train Goku Jr., but he isn't very focused or skilled. Goku Jr. is bullied in school, and a boy named Puck steals his pen. Goku Jr., being a non-violent person, doesn't fight back and lets himself get bullied. When Goku Jr. tells Pan about this, she becomes angry at Goku Jr., and she starts yelling at him, telling him he should defend himself. Her blood pressure rises, and she feints. She is admitted into a hospital. A doctor tells him that his grandmother might not survive. He runs home in the rain and thinks that he shouldn't have been as care free. He prays to God that Pan would survive. When Goku Jr. gets home, he starts recollecting his past, and he looks at a picture of 14-year-old Pan holding the 4 star Dragonball with Giru. He remembers Pan telling him how the Dragonballs could grant any wish. He heads out for Mt. Paou to find Goku's old house, thinking there would be a Dragonball there. Before he leaves town, he runs into Puck and his gang. They try to pick on him, but Goku Jr. is too determined to stop. Goku Jr. powers up, and Puck's gang decides to leave him alone. He walks for a while, but soon realizes that it would take a very long time on foot. Then an 18 wheeler approaches and Goku Jr. gets a ride. The driver sees Goku Jr.'s large supply bag, and tells Goku Jr. that this would be the last pit stop. This makes Goku Jr. need to go to the bathroom, and he gets out at a store. The driver dumps the bag and drives off, leaving only Goku Jr.'s dumped out supply bag. Goku Jr. runs into Puck at the store. Puck decides to travel with Goku Jr. and tells him to wait here for a second. Then he runs into the store, puts some food into a shopping cart, then rushes out, grabbing Goku Jr. on the way out. They ride off down the road. Soon they get to a forest, and they have some snacks at nightfall. Goku Jr. tells him what happened to Pan and Puck gives him his pen back. They are attacked by a pack of wolves, and Puck tries to defend them with fire, but it doesn't work out very well. The wolves start chasing Goku Jr., and they get him against a tree. Goku Jr. gets scared and jumps to the top of a tall tree. Then a young woman named Mamba comes up and scares the wolves away. Puck starts looking for Gohan Jr., and they find him when he starts screaming for help from the top of the tree. Mamba takes the 2 boys to her house. She feeds them dinner, then leaves the room. Once she leaves, she transforms. Then 2 monsters appear, one looking like a chicken named Torga, and the other is named Susha. Mamba says that she gets to eat Puck, and they can split Goku Jr. When they are in bed, Goku Jr. tells Puck that he doesn't trust Mamba. They go outside through the window and sit on the roof. While there, Mamba sneaks in to their room and stabs the beds. Then she finds them, and she starts chasing them. She pulls a secret lever and they fall through a trap door. Goku Jr. tries to distract her by complimenting her, but she catches him with her hair and starts to choke him. Goku Jr. became unconscious, and she weakens her hold because she thinks Goku Jr. died. Then he fires a ki blast, while unconscious, at her; and she releases her hold, being blasted into a cauldron of salsa. Puck cuts off her hair, and they flee into the night. The eventually get to a bridge, and with Goku Jr.'s fear of heights, he refuses to cross. Puck crosses, and then Goku Jr. goes halfway. Then he looks down and the wind picks up. Puck tries to help him and goes back on the bridge, then the bridge snaps. Goku Jr. is able to hold on to a rope, but Puck falls down into a far below river. Goku Jr. is able to pull himself up the mountain, but Puck is gone. While continuing his journey, he runs into a bear cub that is being chased by Susha. He runs away from Susha, but as he is running, he remembers Pan's words, telling him to fight for justice, and he runs back toward Susha, and defeats him easily. He starts tending to the wounds of the cub, but then a parent of the cub comes up and attacked. Before the parent could hurt Goku Jr., the cub tells the parent how Goku Jr. saved his life, and, in gratitude, has Goku Jr. get on his back. They are almost to Goku's old house, but he is stopped by Mamba and the 2 other monsters, Susha and Torga. They start chasing Goku Jr., but are soon stopped by a purple boar man named Lord Yao. He scolds the 3 for not being able to catch a child. He then tries to attack Goku Jr. himself. The cub's parent attacks Lord Yao, giving Goku Jr. time to escape with the cub. Lord Yao defeats the parent easily, and starts crushing it to death. This fills Goku Jr. with so much emotion, he is able to turn into a Super Saiyan. This changes his personality, similar to how the Super Saiyan 2 transformation did to Gohan during the Cell Games. He pounds Lord Yao and eventually kills him. After the fight, Goku Jr. falls unconscious, unable to control the power of the Super Saiyan transformation physically or mentally. He soon wakes up and doesn't remember how he beat Lord Yao, thinking that the bear had done it. Soon, Goku Jr. reaches Goku's old house. He finds the 4 star Dragonball, and he takes it outside. He tries to summon Shenron, but he can't figure out why Shenron isn't appearing. Then Goku appears before his great-great-grandson. He tells him that he needs all 7 Dragonballs to have his wish granted. Goku gives him back the Dragonball, and then, after a little talk, Goku disappears, and Pan and Puck appear in a helicopter looking for him. Goku Jr. joins Pan and Puck in the helicopter, and they fly back to the city.
